Review: ODST Drop Pods — Arctic and Covert Ops Specialists

Oh, it’s been a while since I reviewed something! Here we are with the latest Mega Bloks Halo releases, a pair of ODST Drop Pods: The Arctic Sniper Specialist and the Covert Ops Specialist. Let’s check them out!

Here’s what’s in the box …

Even though they look complete in the box, the Pods do actually come unassembled. It’s a pretty simple but fun build.

The assembled Drop Pods! The detailing on these is insane. All of the grooves and panels give it a really game-authentic look.

Each Pod comes with two Air Brake Rods: a short version and a long version. Use whichever one fits your scene the best!

The windows on the Covert Ops Pod are an opaque gold. While this means that you can’t actually see through the windows, this effect couldn’t be done with a translucent window. I think it’s a worthy trade-off considering how great it looks here.

The Arctic Pod is totally covered with a distressed steel paint job. The bottom half is also treated with an amazing ice and snow effect.

Both Pods stocked and opened … and now onto the figs!

The Covert Ops Specialist, carrying the long-awaited Spartan Laser!

All of the Drop Pod sets have deluxe-painted weapons, and the Spartan Laser really shows that off best. A cool metallic-green to silver gradient paint job with a red stripe near the shoulder rest. It looks just like the game model!

And here he is with his secondary weapon, the Assault Rifle.

The Arctic Sniper comes with a white and silver Sniper Rifle with a green laser scope. It was actually quite hard to shoot against a white background, ha!

He looks really good with his Battle Rifle, too. In this shot you can really see how cool the white, black and silver paint on the suit looks.

And as an added bonus, the Arctic Sniper looks sick if you pair him with the rest of the Arctic items (Arctic Wolverine, Arctic Battle Unit, and Rockethog).

    lol i love needle rifle’s a lot and i wish they would make a purple odst drop pod with a grenade launcher from halo reach and a dmr from reach that would be DA BOMB :-)

    i love both odst drop pods but i want the sniper more because i like snipers they are cool i can use him in my battles against the covenant it would be sick!!!!! the covert ops is my second favorite odst is my favorite spartan well master chief is my number 1 favorite spartan

    I like the sniper . But I got him once and I lost him he didn’t want me in his way. He ran off in my room and hid from me. He killed off any covenant that got In his way, wait… He’s right here . No dont shoot. Please. Everyone who read this hide now or he will snipe you…

    ya know megabloks has now released the rookie and his drop pod which is the same pod and rookie from halo 3 odst I know because I went to walmart today cause I was looking for a new set that would blow me away and I looke at the back of a artic sniper odst box and I saw the rookie ether way I saw 4 great new sets! and they were:1. halo reach shade turret with special ops grunt and air assault trooper with human jetpack, 2. halo reach jorge,marine and skirmisher, 3.halo reach revent with hasop spartain,ultra elite that has a needler and a combat that has…”drums beating” a plama rifle! and this set comes with a actual buble shield, now last but not least the covenment strike set which comes with: 2 halo wars marines (tan),1 mark II spartain (tan), 2 grunts (purple), 2 elites (purple), 2 brutes (purple) and a transport warthog (green camo) now can u guys get which 1 I picked?

    I managed to get one of the wite odst drop pod befor it was out at in some bist if the uk it is so cool i just love the paint work and the sniper ive never had a sniper bithor happy that i got one manic laugh bwah ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!

    I think they’re both epic the black and gold covert ops pod goes really well and the arctic pods detail wit the snow effect is beast…..hoping 2 get both 4 Christmas, fingers crossed :) :) XD p.s I think that the spartan laser would benefit my collection XD Thanks Mega Bloks

    Ive got both of these pods and both are awesome, but the red odst looks like a heavy not a covert, the covert ops odst wouldve been better in black, but if u look at the heavy odst and the covert odst the covert ops one is slighty darker. But to me the covert ops is a much better be, thats my opinion
    P.S FINNALY A SPARTAN LAZER!

    Ah, I do admire Arctic teams – I had it all, but, of course, that’s a lie now!!

    Thanks to the new Arctic drop pod I have something yet to collect for my Arctic team, as well as the Rare Arctic pilot from figure series 3, I’m going to spend quite a bit to try and get him!!

    U do not know i have been waiting for a Spartan laser to show up also stop making made up charecters and start making the charecters in Halo 3 ODST here are some suggestions

    Does anyone know which retailers carry these two ODST Drop Pods? I saw one in Toys “R” Us the other day but they only had the Artic Specilist, and i couldn’t find either on their site. Any help would be appriciated.

    that would be rubbish anyway do you know how to get people and weapons that youve lost on megabrands i,ll tell you at the bottom you go on to instructions and find what you you,ve lost then you high light it and then you go to request center and fill in the forms the npaste the number of the piece into the bar and wallah!

    hey now i can make “the squad” from Halo 3: ODST because the sniper is romeo, close quarters specialist is buck, heavy weapons specialist is mickey, covert ops is dutch, arctic could be dare, and the odst from odst ambush could be the rookie

    That is a great set I really like them I found the arctic sniper 2 days ago but I couldn’t afford it im going back there in 2 weeks to find the covert ops one and maybe get the 4 I need (heavy weapons,arctic sniper,close combat and covert ops)

    we should go stealth mode in to a covanent base take out the outter defeanse. Half of us in water{I’m hopeing they make some kind of oxegen tank soon!!} some in air and some on land onec we taek it out we stop go stealth mode and attack. In the first part the cammander gets shot thats when i come me and my team will go in and swip out everthing then we win. Cool huh {sryy for the bad spelling I’m not that old.}

    sorry i just type on this blog and i take that back about spartan lasers their just no good in open combat because i killed my friend when he had one good for secret strikes but no good in open combat i will defiantly get covert ops thou cause he looks sick and battle scape or prowler if come out in Australia

    A vulture is on Halo Wars, though I’ve never actually seen it in the game, my friend, who owns that game, has and he says they suck the life out of nearby vehicles and infantry. They sound very dangerous to me.

    Im a huge fan of the halo games and I don’t think there is anything called a vulture. Also the Spartan Lazer is actully a really powerful gun to have with one shot it can destroy almost any vehicle and while it’s hard to kill someone who is on foot its really fun to.

    These drop pods do have very good details. But I believe the versimilitude of hiding in the artic with black is near zero. Plus the sepcial ops ODST should have the black chest plate not red.

    oh,and by the way i’ve been working on building a unsc frigate for all of my odst pods [i have a dozen of them].oh and i also discovered that if you combine the pieces of the locust sets [3] with the wraith sets [2] you can build a wicked scarab [and mega blocks said it was "to big" and then i go and actually build one]{;

    I think it’s kinda hard to choose a favorite. The arctic sniper looks better and matches with other sets really well, but the covert ops pod looks GREAT and I’m a big fan of the Spartan Laser.

    That is the Battle Rifle from Halo 3, you can tell because the Dmr doesnt have a rail that creats a gap between the top of the gun and the scope.

    Dang it, not in Rhode Island yet… Although, question: an ODST with a SPARTAN Laser? Really? Though I am not complaining… Spartan laser would go to my Green Spartan, so he could finally take down that Brute chopper. Hopefully the green marine could hold out against the banshee while the odst drops in! But who would drive the warthog…

    nothing new is ever in vegas. I think that you are probably smart enough that you realize that the heat will ruin the pieces wich it does make it a little harder to build but I love building them and i think that they are amazing so please just send them here! i want more (without having to order online, wait a week, and pay shipping and handling!)

    honestlyi like the black odst but the original odst pod is the real odst pod and i havnt seen any black odst pods and the black pods glass i think should be a differnt color instead of a yellowish orange

    The splazer is full of detail, where as the sniper rifle is a package of camo-ey wonder! I reasently baught the regular sniper pod, the quality was amazing. If I had to choose though, it would be the mighty splazer, which, could be used as an overpowed CQB weapon in halo reach. Though the gold tint isnt going in my favor.

    Although I’ve said this before elsewhere I shall say it again, these two sets contain perhaps two of Mega’s best weapon designs yet: the Spartan Laser and the detailed Battle Rifle. However they also each have a serious drawback. The Artic Sniper Pod has a horribly garrish white Sniper Rifle (heedless of the fact that pro-production pics and even box art presents it as quite different) and the Covert Ops ODST should have had an orange chestplate not a red one. Other than that? Excellent!

    I love a megablocks ODST. I love a black ops opération but the sniper is good too. I have got a ODST Sniper (normal), ODST Close quarters specialist and I have got a ODST Heavy Weapons specialist too.

    They’re both my favorite. I really like the arctic sniper specialist, because he comes with really tricked out guns. Also I really like the covert ops specialist, because he has an awesome spartan laser. So I’d have to say they’re both awesome!!!!!!! ;) :) <3

    Nice. Hoping to get a covert ops pod soon. Have to buy minecraft first. Priorities. Might eventually get an arctic sniper, but not for the rifle, since I have three. Nice job mega bloks. Keep it up!

    This looks really cool I only have the Sniper ODST ( but I lost it and am in the process of finding it) and don’t qoute me on this but the Heavy weapon one? Anyway I think its weird they think ODSTs are better then Spartans ( In my opinion ODSTs are cooler but Spartans would win)

    Sweet! I picked up the arctic one a few weeks ago and eagerly await this one! My only complaint is that the Covert Op ODST’s primary color is the red used in the previous one. Perhaps a metallic black or yellow would work better? Anyways, I’m still psyched.

    The Arctic Drop Pod is way cooler! Sniper rifle and battle rifle! Those are my two favorite weapons in Halo and they look awesome with the ODST soldier!

    Cool but sadly my local Wal-Mart is antihalo and I haven’t seen both sets at my local Target and Toysrus which are 2 hours away from my Wal-Mart.

    Umm id have to say covert ops his gun kick butt and the drop pod looks better . I hope you guys make a target exclusive drop pod cause im full target fan ive bought all exclusives execpt 2. The artic figure looks better though he looks better with all the artic sets.

    Definitely a fan of the covert ops…
    A little disappointed in the Arctic ODST – but it’s mainly related to the black details (I think a gray base with white and silver accents would have accentuated the ‘arctic’ camo better)
    Either way they both look cool though (will get probably minimum 2 covert ops due to how insanely cool the pod is)
