Review: Covenant Assault Unit

Yes! It’s the first item of Fall 2011! This won’t be out in stores until August or September (depending on where you live), but I’m happy to have one so I can give you guys the first look! This set includes the brand new, ultra-detailed Elite model!

I’m pretty much in love with the Elite lineart in this box. Just saying.

Of course, you guys are really here to see figs, not boxes … so here’s the Grunts. Pretty basic; they’re painted to match this set, but otherwise they’re just like every other Grunt you’ve ever seen! As usual, they come with a Plasma Pistol and Plasma Grenade. Still, now you have a guaranteed way of getting them without needing the Battlescape or Series 3 packs. And I love this color; so serious!

Here is the Brute of the set, looking very noble and confident with his Brute Shot!

A comparison to the blue Brute from Series 3 (left). The Series 3 version is darker and has a matte finish. The Covenant Assault version has brighter, higher-contrast details and a glossy finish.

And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for …!

Wow! The new Elite is so cool! Those angles! That detail! The all-new Needler matches the aggressive look of the new Elite perfectly.

Old Elite (left) Vs. New Elite (right). It’s easy to see just how different they are; this new model has been totally redesigned from scratch to match the in-game model. I think this is the best looking model for any character we have out right now. It’s just so detailed!

    i recently purchased this set off of amazon.com and the blue brute was the exact same as my series 3 brute for some reason. please keep an eye out for problem like this mega bloks thank you and goodbye

    I wanted to get it but in New Zealand they sell them for $25! That’s way too expensive for 4 mini figure’s. They even sell the mystery pack’s for $6! I wish that they’d make them cheaper in New Zealand :(

    pity the elite dosent have a energy sword, but still want it
    for the grunts,elite,brute,plasma pistol, plasma grenade,
    needler,brute shot, ( quite long wanting but what can i say
    I LOVE HALO MEGA BLOKS!!!!

    I wish they could make a skirmisher minor mega bloks fig i have the crimson elite, when that gets out they’ll be buddys. I wish they had one grunt and two elites I really need a red battle unit because the purple one came with one grunt so now I have 16 and a half men for the covenant, still the blue grunts are cool, now they need a active-camo group of covenant but this is ahead of the time hey it would be nice though

    i must agree the elitr is exeptionaly well detailed ,must get for any one who collects and or creates stopmotions like ME!!exept my camera broke but i have script story board and is going to be similar to the toymation its gonna be pro :) that is if i get to use dads cam canon eos 500d :)

    RyanLP is wrong about brutes or as he called them “apes”,because apes cant battle in war,unless guerilla warfare is confusing u, but if thats not the case and you just hate monkeys then play reach because if u can get a good look at their face u can clearly see that they look nothing like apes

    Just to clear up a few things,

    1. Mega does not have that many Hunter sets because they are not mainline troops, only shock troops and they are costly to make, making thousands a day is expensive especially when they are larger than other minifigs.

    2. Elites were the Leaders of Infantry most the time except for when they sent in Brutes as a genocidal tool againtst civilian population.

    3. They already have a Brute Stalker inside the Battlescape set just not the mauler.

    4. Halo 4 takes place after Halo 3 when Master Chief and Cortana is inside the aft section of the ship that escaped the Ark when they prematurly fired the ring. He went into Cryosleep while Cortana watches over him until she wakes him up during the Halo 4 teaser trailer.

    5. In the fiction, Halo Wars is during the early conflicts with the Covenant exactly 20 years before the Halo event. Halo Reach was the fall of the colony Reach just days before the Pillar of Autum fled the planet with Master Chief and Cortana. Halo CE takes place after this when the Pillar randomly escapes using slipspace as part of the Cole protocal and stumbles across Halo and, in turn, releasing the Flood. Halo 2 takes place after Master Cheif destroyed Halo without firing it thinking he just destroyed the Flood but he was wrong. He was hiding in the cargo port of a Foreunner ship carrying the Prophet of Regret turns out they discovered Earth and was currently assaulting the Planet. During the level “Metropolis” was where Halo 3: ODST comes in just before a Covenant vessel flees the city using slipspace causeing the orbital elevator to fall. The Covenant glasses the city unveiling the entrance to the Ark. The ODST team, led by Veronica Dare, leaves just before they get glassed with a critical asset, a Covenant Engineer and takes it back to the UNSC to try to find out what the Covenant is looking for. After this its Halo 3 given that New Mombasa is gone and all that is left is the digsite the Covenant has escavated revealing the Portal to the Ark. He later on kills Truth. With only one matter to attend to, the Flood. Master Cheif destroys the Ark and the new Halo being built as a replacement for the one destroyed in CE. Annialating the Flood before it takes control. The Arbiter, Chief, and Cortana escapes safley with the part of the ship with the Arbiter being teleported back to earth with the aft section, carrying Master Cheif and Cortana, is teleported into unknown space, possibly Reach given the planets look compared to the one in Halo Reach. He is in Cryosleep until they can be found by ( hopefully ) the UNSC as they rebuild after the war with Cortana watching over him. This is where Halo Legends begins and Halo 4 will take place.

    Wow, must admit the new Elite design looks much better. Sick of Grunt’s coming with Plasma Pistol’s, however. They don’t stay in they’re hands very well, unlike the Plasma Grenade. Also, Needler does not have much detail.(Purple Needles? Really?) What we need are the following sets: (SEE NEXT COMMENT)

    This looks really good! I’m just wondering when it comes out in Australia… probably September. But I’m planning on getting this, the UNSC Silver Assault Unit, the Covenant Weapons pack and UNSC Weapons pack. Great sets! Keep going, MEGA.

    thats awesome i want one they should also make a zealot elite off halo reach and sell him in a battle pack with a energy sword a beam riffle a needler riffle and a plasma pistol

    i want to get 3 but thats 30 dollars plus tax and i could get a wraith for that but i have the wraith so i guess 3 of them is fine that = 3 new elites 6 grunts and 3 brutes its ok but what about the other sets and halo serise 3 packs and like weapon packs and the new sets coming this fall!!!!!!!!…………well my b-day is in sep. so thats $300 for me then chrismis thats $500 so im happy now! :)

    i agree atlasbot. i have a banshee and i dont like it because the flight elite wont fit and an orange flight elite comes with the covenant invasion set.{look it up}

    Megabloks also shuld make a new covenant comabat unit with 1 skrimiser 2 drones and a elite. That would be so awesome. Then we will finaly get more covenant unit variety. Then they should make a set with an engineer and a prophet then we will finaly be able to get all the diferent covenant species. Who agrees? Just so you guys know I do not know how to spell skrimiser.

    Megabloks should make different kinds of covenant armor for ranks instead of just using different colors. THe do it for the spartans. Like making a brute chieftan with black and red armor. Then they need to make a gravity hammer for the brute. Who agrees with me?

    hopefully they make da old elites 2 cuz i have 2 of da original blu elites and with these new elites looking beast and all and saying eventually i will have a bunch of these there would be more beast looking elites than da not as good elites and naturally da better armor da better rank i make sense dont i

    Could Megabloks make an updated flight elite? Because with the shoulders It is hard for him to be able to have both hands on the bars in the Banshee.

    halo 3 odst takes place shortly after the mission metropilous in halo 2 so technically is not after halo 3. Because at the end of halo 3 all the brutes are chased away from earth and new mombasa is glassed

    the elite in this set looks sik, but they have replaced an elite or brute for a grunt….
    I think the covenant is really out matched here. ( and out numbered, unless you buy only covanent stuff

    i think they should make an eliet pack with each rank of eliets from minor to field marshall.Or include them in future set. I REALY WANT A SPEC OPS ELIET!!!

    we need a commando elite like in halo 3….perfect idea for a set……crash pelican infested with flood spore and marine flood…figures:2 combat elites , 1 commando elite,spartan with flamethrower,5 mini flood spores,2 marine flood

    i have to say that these knew sets look great.I love that they are bringing in halo 3 and halo reach sets in..falcon looks awesome definetly going to buy a couple of those……the knew troop packs look good also.Its good to seee that mega blocks is finally putting more marines than spartans because thats how its supposed to be…The guns newer guns look fantastic as do the new drop pods….I am looking forward to the fall and winter sets and it will also be great to see what they will have in store for us in 2012 when halo 4 comes out…great job mega blocks keep up the great work

    i am definetley getting that weapon pack,the elites new mold is so awesome.the only problem is all my grenade grunts have the clear blue plasma grenades from the battle scape so in order to not make that grunt look strange ill probabley have to turn his grenade into a mauler or something.

    If I had to choose 1 figure out of this set it would be the Elite (because I like it better than the others and my UNSC army has more Spartans than anything else, where as my Covenant army is all brutes besides an elite and grunt).

    i wish i could pay the same price of the whole set and insted just get like 2 elites with the needler beacause thats all i really want in this a have way 2 many brutes and grunts and not enough elites plus they look waaaaaaaay cooler and the new needler is awesome 2 but the elites r the best part of the set 4 sure although the grunts with grenade and plasma pistol and the new paint jobs r a nice change of pace so everybody lets give them a warm halo welcome and make them all die at the hands of the odsts because thats just the nature of things,the circle of life if you will

    I got 2 things to say. One is a compliment and the other is a new set idea.

    1. OMG! New Elite looks so EPIC! Almost like the one in Halo Reach.

    2. Speaking of Halo Reach, i got an idea: Why don’t you make a Halo Reach set? You know… with an Emile character, or a Noble 6 or a Jorge. And some new weapons like the Gravity Hammer or a Golf Club (From Reach). Just an idea. Hope you like my idea.

    this new elite is sooo well detailed, it almost looks real. the comparison’s kind of like comparing normal warhammers to citadel finecast models. i’m gonna get this no matter by what means or sacrifice!!!

    Kardas there are two red teams one in halo wars and the other is lead by master chief. I find it abberant also that there are two but there are. But yes in some sense Master Chief is a red team leader. Also Scarabgenrel what did you want to talk to me about.

    I have been waiting for a new elite and the needler… hey next year you need a scarab,gravity hammers,plasma rifles,and sentinials. plusyou should come out with bloodgulch and a few forerunner constructs. Oh and more flood sets because with just one set with flood in it how are you suppsed to have an army with that

    Hm, I am not sure if I like the new elite. Also he is not up to date with the ingame version unless you mean Halo 3. I think Mega Bloks should try to keep up with reach and the coming Halo titles like the anniversary game and Halo 4. Arter all Halo 3 is a couple of years old. Don’t get me wrong. Halo 3 is awesome. But if you pay are a Halo fan you light like Mega Bloks to keep up with the newest version. The new version is what they look like now.

    nice halo ce elite man if this set is 10 dollars that would be a ripoff because 2 grunts are 2.50 and brutes , elites are both worth 2.50 each so in total you are getting a set worth 7.50

    yes i love it! the new elite mold is so much better. it even looks taller! now the elites can finally be terrifying. and thanks for the box art pics. I am toatally getting 2 to 4 of these awsome sets.
