McGill Head & Neck Cancer Fundraising event at MEGA Brands – raised more than $600k

On Thursday, June 14th, 2012, the McGill Head and Neck Cancer Fund held their 18th annual fundraising event at the MEGA Brands Inc. head office, honoring Chair and Founder of MEGA Brands, Mr. Victor J. Bertrand.

Together we raised over $600,000 to support the research of head and neck cancer at the assorted McGill and research laboratories!

Actor Michael Douglas, a close friend of the McGill Oncology Program and last year’s honoree, donated to the live auction, 2 unique prizes: a golf foursome and a walk-on role in his upcoming movie titled “Last Vegas” co-starring Robert DeNiro and Morgan Freeman. We also auctioned off our famous giant Spider-Man build!

In addition, our event also launched a 3-year $1M fundraising campaign to benefit the Montreal Children’s Hospital. This campaign was unveiled with the presentation of the Mega Bloks Wellness Wall For Kids which will be built with Mega Bloks bricks, each one representing a donation by supporters from the Montreal community, and will be installed at the new Montreal Children’s Hospital on the Glen site. The funds collected will be directed to support research labs that focus on hearing loss in children caused by cancer treatment. More information on the Mega Bloks Wellness Wall for Kids, as well as directions on how to make a donation, will become available in mid-September 2012.

Thank you so much to everyone who attended and supported this cause. You can check out a full recap of the event at the Montreal Gazette’s website.
